Milk Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN milk market reached $X in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. In 2022, shipments abroad of milk decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In value terms, milk exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. Thailand was the major exporter of milk in ASEAN, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. Malaysia (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (X%).

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the milk exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Malaysia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Indonesia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Thailand increased by X percentage points.

In value terms, milk imports rose notably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade.
