Imports into Angola
For the fifth year in a row, Angola recorded decline in purchases abroad of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products, which decreased by -20% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 191%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rusks and toasted bread imports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 127% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Portugal (X tons) constituted the largest rusks and toasted bread supplier to Angola, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, rusks and toasted bread imports from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (X tons), with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Portugal amounted to -7.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-7.0% per year) and Brazil (-31.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average rusks and toasted bread import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -29.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 16%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
