The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electrical fuse exports reduced to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -23.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Morocco (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) represented roughly 75% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), creating a 24% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +5.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the largest electrical fuse supplier in Africa, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Tunisia totaled +7.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+11.8% per year) and South Africa (+0.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, declining by -3.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+6.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of electrical fuses, when their volume decreased by -11% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, electrical fuse imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Nigeria dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 53% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons) and South Africa (X tons), together mixing up an 11% share of total imports. Morocco (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Cameroon (X tons), Libya (X tons) and Ethiopia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electrical fuse imports into Nigeria stood at +12.7%. At the same time, Cameroon (+21.8%), Tanzania (+19.2%), Libya (+18.9%), Ethiopia (+5.4%) and Ghana (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cameroon emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +21.8% from 2012-2021. South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Morocco (-1.3%), Kenya (-7.2%), Algeria (-8.2%) and Tunisia (-17.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Nigeria (+32 p.p.), Tanzania (+2.3 p.p.) and Cameroon (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kenya (-3.4 p.p.), Algeria (-5 p.p.) and Tunisia (-28.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest electrical fuse importing markets in Africa were Nigeria ($X), Tunisia ($X) and South Africa ($X), together comprising 46% of total imports. These countries were followed by Morocco, Algeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Tanzania, Libya, Kenya and Ethiopia, which together accounted for a further 27%.

Cameroon, with a CAGR of +13.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by -10.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
