In September 2023, the average zinc alloys export price amounted to $3,531 per ton, picking up by 7% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 an increase of 9.6% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in September 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($3,747 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada amounted to $3,321 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+2.4%).
Zinc Alloys Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average zinc alloys import price stood at $2,861 per ton in September 2023, remaining stable against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 32% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $4,576 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Mexico.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Mexico amounted to -3.3% per month.
Zinc Alloys Exports in the United States
In 2022, the amount of unwrought zinc alloys exported from the United States surged to 44K tons, rising by 57% on the previous year. In general, exports saw significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, zinc alloys exports surged to $125M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 69%.
