In 2022, the average yarn; of coir import price amounted to $13,623 per ton, with an increase of 7.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 254% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($19,182 per ton), while the price for Germany amounted to $7,071 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 63 kg. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, yarn; of coir imports surged to $831 in 2022. In general, imports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 106%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
