View PricingWti Oil Historical Prices
WTI (West Texas Intermediate) oil is a grade of crude oil that is known for its high-quality and low sulfur content. It is one of the two major benchmarks for global oil prices, the other being Brent crude. WTI oil is produced in the United States, predominantly in Texas, hence its name.
Historical prices of WTI oil have varied significantly over the years, influenced by various factors such as global supply and demand dynamics, geopolitical events, and changes in global oil production. The following is an overview of the historical prices of WTI oil:
During the early 2000s, WTI oil prices averaged around $20 to $30 per barrel. This relatively low price range was reflective of a period of relatively stable global oil supply and demand. However, prices started to rise steadily in the mid-2000s, reaching a peak of around $147 per barrel in 2008. This surge in prices was mainly driven by increased global demand, particularly from emerging economies such as China and India, coupled with supply concerns.
Following the 2008 peak, WTI oil prices experienced a sharp decline during the global financial crisis. Prices dropped to around $30 per barrel in early 2009 as a result of the economic downturn and reduced oil demand. However, with the gradual recovery of the global economy, prices eventually rebounded and entered a period of relative stability.
From 2011 to 2014, WTI oil prices ranged between $80 and $110 per barrel. This stability was disrupted in mid-2014 when prices plummeted to under $50 per barrel. This significant decline was primarily driven by a combination of factors, including oversupply in the global oil market, particularly from the United States' shale oil boom, and a decrease in global demand due to slower economic growth.
In 2016, WTI oil prices hit a 13-year low, dropping to around $26 per barrel. This steep decline was caused by a combination of factors, including oversupply, a slowdown in global economic growth, and the absence of production cuts by major oil-producing countries.
Since then, WTI oil prices have shown some recovery, although they have remained volatile. In recent years, prices have generally ranged between $50 and $80 per barrel, with fluctuations influenced by factors such as OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) decisions, geopolitical tensions, and global economic conditions.
It is important to note that these historical prices are given as general ranges and can vary significantly on a day-to-day basis due to the volatile nature of the oil market.
