World Biggest Crude Oil Refinery

The largest crude oil refinery in the world is the Jamnagar Refinery in India. It is owned and operated by Reliance Industries Limited, and is located in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This refinery complex has a total refining capacity of 1.24 million barrels per day, making it the largest single-location refinery in the world.

The Jamnagar Refinery was commissioned in 1999 and has continuously expanded its capacity since then. It is spread over an area of 7,500 acres and comprises of several units and facilities. The complex includes two adjacent refineries - the old refinery, also known as the Jamnagar Refinery West (JRW), and the new refinery, known as the Jamnagar Refinery East (JRE).

The old refinery has a capacity of 660,000 barrels per day and primarily processes low-cost, heavy, and sour crude oils. It is equipped with various units such as a fluidized catalytic cracking unit, a hydrocracking unit, a delayed coker unit, and a continuous catalytic reforming unit. The new refinery, on the other hand, has a capacity of 580,000 barrels per day and focuses on high-value products. It includes a state-of-the-art delayed coker unit, a mild hydrocracker, a vacuum gas oil hydrocracker, and a cat-cracker unit.

Together, these two refineries form the Jamnagar Refinery complex, which is capable of processing some of the most challenging crude oils and producing a wide range of petroleum products. The complex also houses other supporting facilities such as a captive power plant, a captive water plant, and a captive port and terminal.

The Jamnagar Refinery is known for its advanced technology, efficient operations, and stringent environmental standards. It has implemented various measures to reduce its environmental impact, including the use of advanced emissions control systems and the adoption of energy-efficient practices. The refinery complex also has its own dedicated research and development center, which focuses on developing new technologies and processes for refining and petrochemical production.
