Wool; Carded Price in Germany (CIF) - 2022

The average wool; carded import price stood at $14,085 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -7.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 60%. The import price peaked at $22,431 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($29,489 per ton), while the price for Mongolia ($8,871 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+14.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average wool; carded export price stood at $25,114 per ton in 2022, declining by -5.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 80% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $26,545 per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($43,705 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($7,756 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+12.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, approx. 36 tons of wool; carded were imported into Germany; falling by -63.4% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports faced a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 42%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 98 tons, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, wool; carded imports dropped dramatically to $505K in 2022. In general, imports faced a sharp downturn. The smallest decline of -3.6% was in 2021.

For the third year in a row, Germany recorded decline in shipments abroad of wool; carded, which decreased by -59.7% to 13 tons in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a dramatic descent. The smallest decline of -37.6% was in 2020.

In value terms, wool; carded exports reduced remarkably to $327K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a sharp reduction. The smallest decline of -22.2% was in 2020.
