Wood Fuel Price in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2023
In October 2023, the average wood fuel export price amounted to $80.2 per cubic meter, jumping by 16% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 60% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $110 per cubic meter in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to October 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Israel ($176 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia ($56.7 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wood Fuel Price in Bulgaria (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average wood fuel import price amounted to $84 per cubic meter, increasing by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $111 per cubic meter. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($307 per cubic meter), while the price for Greece ($49 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+85.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Wood Fuel Exports in Bulgaria
In 2022, wood fuel exports from Bulgaria contracted remarkably to 79K cubic meters, which is down by -58.8% on the year before. In general, exports faced a significant contraction. The smallest decline of -10.8% was in 2021. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 333K cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wood fuel exports declined dramatically to $3.5M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a dramatic shrinkage. The smallest decline of -1.5% was in 2021. The exports peaked at $11M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Wood Fuel Imports in Bulgaria
In 2022, wood fuel imports into Bulgaria declined dramatically to 100 cubic meters, waning by -79.4% against the year before. In general, imports saw a dramatic slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 145% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 1.6K cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wood fuel imports fell markedly to $8.4K in 2022. Overall, imports showed a precipitous setback.
