Whey Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2023
The average whey export price stood at $906 per ton in July 2023, dropping by -6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 22% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,528 per ton. From January 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($1,023 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkmenistan ($601 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Whey Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2022
The average whey import price stood at $1,639 per ton in 2022, rising by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 78% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,124 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($10,350 per ton), while the price for Iran ($503 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Whey Exports in Turkey
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of whey, when their volume decreased by -49% to 43K tons. Overall, exports showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 85K tons, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
In value terms, whey exports contracted significantly to $56M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 59% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $81M, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Whey Imports in Turkey
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of whey, when their volume decreased by -35.2% to 1.6K tons. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 743%.
In value terms, whey imports reduced dramatically to $2.7M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 398% against the previous year.
