Wheat Gluten Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average wheat gluten import price amounted to $832 per ton, with a decrease of -16% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a mild increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, wheat gluten import price decreased by -32.9% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 64% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,319 per ton. From April 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($2,074 per ton), while the price for Germany ($689 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wheat Gluten Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average wheat gluten export price amounted to $2,086 per ton, surging by 22% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a notable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 36% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,404 per ton. From July 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($2,923 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($633 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wheat Gluten Imports in the Netherlands
In 2022, supplies from abroad of wheat gluten decreased by -19.4% to 99K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 57%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 123K tons, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, wheat gluten imports declined to $115M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $126M, and then declined in the following year.
