Wheat Gluten Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
The average wheat gluten import price stood at $2,700 per ton in September 2023, dropping by -12.5% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated notable growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, wheat gluten import price decreased by -12.5% against August 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 80% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $3,456 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($3,782 per ton), while the price for France ($2,156 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average wheat gluten export price amounted to $2,315 per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Malta ($2,807 per ton) and Uzbekistan ($2,443 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($2,106 per ton) and Estonia ($2,129 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
