Wheat Gluten Price in Greece (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average wheat gluten import price amounted to $1,971 per ton, shrinking by -1.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw mild growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 22% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,760 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($2,724 per ton), while the price for Romania ($195 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wheat Gluten Price in Greece (FOB) - 2022

The average wheat gluten export price stood at $2,229 per ton in 2022, increasing by 27% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malta ($3,106 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($1,470 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+44.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, wheat gluten imports skyrocketed to $21M in 2022. Global wheat gluten exports grew by +6% y-o-y to 928K tons in 2020. In value terms, world exports saw a drop, as the average wheat gluten export price decreased in the past year. Germany, Belgium and France were the largest gluten exporters in 2020. The UK and Poland recorded the highest export growth rates last year. Norway, Belgium, France and the Netherlands emerged as the countries with the highest per capita consumption figures.
