Waxes; Artificial, Prepared Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average waxes; artificial, prepared export price stood at $3,794 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 7.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 8.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $4,543 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($6,100 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($2,714 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In August 2023, the average waxes; artificial, prepared import price amounted to $3,411 per ton, surging by 2.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 16% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $4,243 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($6,353 per ton), while the price for China ($2,300 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Waxes; Artificial, Prepared Exports in the United States

For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in overseas shipments of waxes; artificial, prepared, which increased by 2.4% to 146K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, waxes; artificial, prepared exports surged to $607M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
