In 2022, the average waxes; artificial, prepared import price amounted to $1,885 per ton, falling by -7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 23%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $2,045 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($3,982 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($884 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average waxes; artificial, prepared export price amounted to $2,929 per ton, falling by -3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $6,989 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($9,515 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($1,311 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Waxes; Artificial, Prepared Imports in Sri Lanka
In 2022, the amount of waxes; artificial, prepared imported into Sri Lanka shrank rapidly to 1.9K tons, which is down by -16.7% on the year before. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +26.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.3K tons, and then declined sharply in the following year.
In value terms, waxes; artificial, prepared imports dropped notably to $3.6M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $4.7M, and then fell notably in the following year.

In 2022, the amount of waxes; artificial, prepared exported from Sri Lanka shrank markedly to 24 tons, declining by -38.3% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 631% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 39 tons, and then fell notably in the following year.
