Vegetable Price in the Philippines (CIF) - 2022
The average vegetable import price stood at $1,085 per ton in 2022, growing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 184%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($2,288 per ton), while the price for Germany ($474 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+27.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vegetable Price in the Philippines (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average vegetable export price amounted to $2,142 per ton, with a decrease of -17% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $2,658 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($2,629 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($570 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+21.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vegetable Imports in the Philippines
In 2022, supplies from abroad of vegetables decreased by -26% to 50K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 22%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 73K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, vegetable imports declined remarkably to $54M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 31%.
