Urea Price in India (CIF) - 2023
The average urea import price stood at $308 per ton in July 2023, waning by -9.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 15% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $666 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from China ($419 per ton) and Finland ($338 per ton), while the price for Oman ($284 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($307 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+14.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Urea Price in India (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average urea export price amounted to $1,614 per ton, with an increase of 38% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 68% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,954 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Suriname ($8,235 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($400 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Urea Imports in India
In 2022, supplies from abroad of urea was finally on the rise to reach 14M tons after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
