Unmanufactured Tobacco Price in Greece (FOB) - 2023
The average unmanufactured tobacco export price stood at $8,064 per ton in July 2023, with an increase of 5.8% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated notable growth from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, unmanufactured tobacco export price increased by +39.2% against May 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 32% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($14,346 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($3,047 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tunisia (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Unmanufactured Tobacco Price in Greece (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average unmanufactured tobacco import price amounted to $6,692 per ton, rising by 16% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated pronounced growth from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, unmanufactured tobacco import price increased by +48.9% against March 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 21% against the previous month. The import price peaked in July 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($9,300 per ton), while the price for India ($2,670 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+10.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Unmanufactured Tobacco Exports in Greece
For the fourth year in a row, Greece recorded growth in shipments abroad of tobacco (unmanufactured), which increased by 3.3% to 43K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 31%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco exports fell to $221M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 28%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $235M, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco imports skyrocketed to $170M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.1% against 2019 indices.
