In August 2023, the average twine and cordage import price amounted to $9,248 per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a moderate expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, twine and cordage import price increased by +23.1% against July 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 53% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $10,171 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($27,869 per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($2,610 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average twine and cordage export price stood at $9,361 per ton in August 2023, rising by 6.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 205% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $17,696 per ton. From March 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($40,109 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($4,013 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
