Transport Container Price in Nigeria (CIF) - 2022

The average transport container import price stood at $2,178 per unit in 2022, increasing by 39% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 588% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $4,332 per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($8,600 per unit), while the price for the United States ($204 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+30.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average transport container export price stood at $1,012 per unit in 2022, falling by -6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $3,176 per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($6,768 per unit), while the average price for exports to Spain ($194 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+22.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Transport Container Imports in Nigeria

In 2022, approx. 8.1K units of transport containers were imported into Nigeria; jumping by 101% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 123% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, transport container imports skyrocketed to $18M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a strong expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
