Tomato Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022

The average tomato export price stood at $718 per ton in 2022, jumping by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $809 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,402 per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($63 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Moldova (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tomato Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2022

The average tomato import price stood at $1,268 per ton in 2022, jumping by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 57% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($1,598 per ton), while the price for Cyprus ($453 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+11.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tomato Exports in Turkey

In 2022, exports of tomatoes from Turkey declined to 520K tons, shrinking by -14.3% against the year before. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 607K tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, tomato exports expanded to $374M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 16%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Tomato Imports in Turkey

In 2022, overseas purchases of tomatoes decreased by -29.2% to 1.1K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 249%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.2K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tomato imports declined to $1.4M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 251% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $4.3M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
