Tomato Price in Luxembourg (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average tomato import price amounted to $3,184 per ton, dropping by -11.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 17% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $4,389 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($6,823 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($2,518 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tomato Price in Luxembourg (FOB) - 2023
The average tomato export price stood at $3,925 per ton in August 2023, surging by 1.6% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated temperate growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, tomato export price increased by +1.6% against July 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 32% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,430 per ton. From March 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($3,926 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($3,866 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tomato Imports in Luxembourg
In 2022, purchases abroad of tomatoes decreased by -2.9% to 5.6K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 1.7% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 5.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tomato imports reduced to $18M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 16%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $20M, and then fell in the following year.
