Tomato Price in India (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average tomato export price amounted to $273 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 117% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $490 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($532 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($225 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nepal (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Tomato Price in India (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average tomato import price amounted to $1,861 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the import price showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 163%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,933 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($1,932 per ton), while the price for Brazil stood at $1,668 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+20.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Tomato Exports in India
In 2022, shipments abroad of tomatoes decreased by -9% to 79K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 20%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 96K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, tomato exports dropped sharply to $21M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 24%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $36M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Tomato Imports in India
In 2022, overseas purchases of tomatoes decreased by -70.9% to 6.7 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports faced a dramatic setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 125 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, tomato imports shrank dramatically to $12K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $171K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
