In July 2023, the average tobacco refuse import price amounted to $578 per ton, increasing by 17% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 27% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $676 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($1,295 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($105 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+14.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average tobacco refuse export price amounted to $1,268 per ton, dropping by -5.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 88%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $5,555 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Hungary ($1,500 per ton) and Germany ($1,330 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($1,146 per ton) and Croatia ($1,218 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
