Tobacco Refuse Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
In January 2022, the average tobacco refuse import price amounted to $758 per ton, picking up by 7.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2021 when the average import price increased by 15% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $824 per ton in February 2021; however, from March 2021 to January 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,030 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($147 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average tobacco refuse export price stood at $1,291 per ton in 2022, increasing by 148% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $1,905 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($1,388 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($515 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+21.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, shipments abroad of tobacco refuses decreased by -50% to 859 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 255%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, tobacco refuse exports surged to $1.1M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the last three years.
