In 2022, the average tobacco refuse export price amounted to $1,325 per ton, dropping by -21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,662 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,100 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($400 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
