Tobacco Refuse Price in India (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average tobacco refuse export price amounted to $618 per ton, dropping by -11.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 66% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $884 per ton. From May 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($1,342 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sri Lanka ($162 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average tobacco refuse import price amounted to $325 per ton, which is down by -9.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 162%. The import price peaked at $1,642 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($538 per ton), while the price for China amounted to $311 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+12.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Tobacco Refuse Exports in India
In 2022, the amount of tobacco refuses exported from India surged to 28K tons, rising by 58% on the previous year's figure. Overall, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +66.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, tobacco refuse exports surged to $16M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a strong expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
