Tin Price in Ukraine (CIF) - 2023
The average tin import price stood at $30,447 per ton in July 2023, surging by 9.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 10% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $33,840 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($30,565 per ton), while the price for China amounted to $29,971 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tin Price in Ukraine (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average tin export price amounted to $24,667 per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, tin export price increased by +14.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 54%. The export price peaked at $24,786 per ton in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Moldova.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Georgia amounted to +19.0% per year.
Tin Imports in Ukraine
In 2022, the amount of tin imported into Ukraine reduced notably to 42 tons, falling by -54% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports continue to indicate a sharp descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 2.7% against the previous year.
In value terms, tin imports contracted significantly to $1.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 67%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.7M, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Tin Exports in Ukraine
In 2022, overseas shipments of tin decreased by 99.9% to 6 kg, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports faced a sharp shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 0.1%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 250 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, tin exports shrank dramatically to $148 in 2022. Overall, exports faced a precipitous slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 7.2% against the previous year.

The spike was driven by a shortage resulting from sharply heightened demand from the electronics sector, where tin is used for circuit board manufacturing, while the total volume of metal production was insufficient. According to October World Bank’s forecast, the average annual tin price should drop from an expected $31,250 per ton in 2021 to $31,000 per ton in 2022.
Tin prices rose to record levels in response to high demand from the electronics industry and a severe supply shortage on the market. The deficit has been driven on by pandemic-related decreases in mining output in 2020, the shipping container crisis and a drop in exports due to supply-chain disruptions. Prices are forecast to fall only in 2022 thanks to ramped-up mining output and supply and demand returning to equilibrium.
