Tin Bar Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average tin bar export price amounted to $8,156 per ton, with an increase of 9.6% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in July 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($15,667 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($6,551 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tin Bar Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

The average tin bar import price stood at $31,623 per ton in July 2023, growing by 19% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 50% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $40,974 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($28,643 per ton), while the price for Canada ($17,243 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Tin Bar Exports in the United States

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of tin bars, rods, profiles and wires decreased by -14.9% to 9.5K tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +30.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 11K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, tin bar exports fell to $72M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $82M, and then fell in the following year.

Tin Bar Imports in the United States

In 2022, imports of tin bars, rods, profiles and wires into the United States declined to 1.5K tons, waning by -14.7% against 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 53%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.8K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, tin bar imports stood at $58M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
