Tapioca and Substitutes Price in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022

The average tapioca and substitutes export price stood at $1,951 per ton in March 2022, falling by -35.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2021 an increase of 122% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3,916 per ton in September 2021; however, from October 2021 to March 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($5,427 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($476 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tapioca and Substitutes Price in Indonesia (CIF) - 2022

The average tapioca and substitutes import price stood at $1,905 per ton in March 2022, rising by 3.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2021 when the average import price increased by 41% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,250 per ton in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to March 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2022, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($2,291 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) stood at $1,825 per ton.

From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Tapioca and Substitutes Exports in Indonesia

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of tapioca and substitutes, when their volume decreased by -50.5% to 4.3K tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 237% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 8.7K tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, tapioca and substitutes exports shrank dramatically to $3.3M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $7.3M, and then declined markedly in the following year.

Tapioca and substitutes imports into Indonesia surged to 2K tons in 2022, growing by 42% compared with 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
