Synthetic Rubber Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2023
The average synthetic rubber export price stood at $2,041 per ton in October 2023, waning by -25% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 8.8% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,127 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to October 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Serbia ($2,756 per ton), while the average price for exports to Libya ($1,021 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Synthetic Rubber Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023
In October 2023, the average synthetic rubber import price amounted to $2,765 per ton, picking up by 20% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $3,158 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($5,446 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($1,971 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Synthetic Rubber Exports in Belgium
In 2022, shipments abroad of synthetic rubber decreased by -1.8% to 547K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +59.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 49% against the previous year.
In value terms, synthetic rubber exports skyrocketed to $1.6B in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 53% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Overall, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +26.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +100.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 77% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, synthetic rubber imports surged to $1.4B in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
