Swine; Live Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average swine; live export price amounted to $193 per unit, with a decrease of -50.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 42% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $581 per unit in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($305 per unit), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($142 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average swine; live import price stood at $195 per unit in August 2023, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a notable increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, swine; live import price decreased by -2.6% against May 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 29% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $200 per unit. From June 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($259 per unit), while the price for Poland ($150 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of swine; live, when their volume increased by 6.1% to 9.7M units. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a noticeable descent. The exports peaked at 11M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, swine; live exports stood at $660M in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $1B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
