Swine; Live Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023

The average swine; live import price stood at $225 per unit in July 2023, waning by -9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 43% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $247 per unit in June 2023, and then shrank in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($668 per unit), while the price for Croatia ($180 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In August 2023, the average swine; live export price amounted to $196 per unit, with a decrease of -8.5% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a tangible expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, swine; live export price decreased by -12.0% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $223 per unit in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($323 per unit), while the average price for exports to Albania ($112 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Moldova (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of swine; live decreased by -12.7% to 975K units, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 3.3% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.2M units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, swine; live imports expanded to $121M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 12%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $138M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
