Swine; Live Price in Croatia (FOB) - 2023

The average swine; live export price stood at $136 per unit in August 2023, which is down by -7.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated moderate growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, swine; live export price decreased by -22.9% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 15% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $176 per unit in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Italy ($162 per unit) and Hungary ($134 per unit), while the average price for exports to Albania ($114 per unit) and Kosovo ($131 per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average swine; live import price stood at $254 per unit in July 2023, declining by -3.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 41% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $263 per unit in June 2023, and then contracted in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($304 per unit), while the price for Germany ($202 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, shipments abroad of swine; live decreased by -30% to 349K units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. The exports peaked at 499K units in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, swine; live exports declined slightly to $62M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $65M in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, swine; live imports surged to $37M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.
