In 2022, the average sulphites; of sodium import price amounted to $380 per ton, increasing by 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $540 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($763 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($71 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Sulphites; of Sodium Imports in Bangladesh
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of sulphites; of sodia decreased by -22.3% to 11K tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 80%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 14K tons, and then declined significantly in the following year.
In value terms, sulphites; of sodium imports declined markedly to $4.2M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 58%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $5.2M, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
