Sugar Price in Singapore (FOB) - 2022
In September 2022, the average sugar export price amounted to $2,781 per ton, surging by 21% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated moderate growth from September 2021 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, sugar export price increased by +37.7% against June 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 52% against the previous month. The export price peaked in September 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($4,196 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($2,646 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2021 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Price in Singapore (CIF) - 2022
In September 2022, the average sugar import price amounted to $1,276 per ton, with an increase of 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 29% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,392 per ton. From July 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,138 per ton), while the price for China ($554 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2021 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Exports in Singapore
Sugar exports from Singapore rose notably to 4.3K tons in 2022, picking up by 7% against 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 41%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 4.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sugar exports totaled $6.9M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Sugar Imports in Singapore
In 2022, overseas purchases of sugar decreased by -25% to 6.8K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 104%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 9.8K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sugar imports fell remarkably to $5.2M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -18.9% against 2020 indices.
