Sugar Price in Poland (CIF) - 2023
The average sugar import price stood at $987 per ton in July 2023, declining by -15.5% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated tangible growth from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, sugar import price increased by +85.4% against March 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 101% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,168 per ton, and then contracted dramatically in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,431 per ton), while the price for Mauritius ($929 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+63.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Price in Poland (FOB) - 2023
The average sugar export price stood at $1,125 per ton in July 2023, falling by -4.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,501 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($7,803 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($1,064 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Sugar Imports in Poland
For the third year in a row, Poland recorded decline in supplies from abroad of sugar, which decreased by -49.1% to 19K tons in 2022. In general, imports saw a significant decrease. The smallest decline of -24.5% was in 2020.
In value terms, sugar imports reduced dramatically to $13M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a precipitous setback. The smallest decline of -18.9% was in 2021.

Sugar Exports in Poland
In 2022, shipments abroad of sugar decreased by -0.5% to 3.1K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 14%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 3.1K tons, leveling off in the following year.
In value terms, sugar exports skyrocketed to $3.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
