Sugar Price in Iran (CIF) - 2022
The average sugar import price stood at $453 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 36% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild decrease. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $504 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($570 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($435 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Sugar Price in Iran (FOB) - 2022
The average sugar export price stood at $576 per ton in 2022, reducing by -56.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 107% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,349 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,908 per ton), while the average price for exports to Tajikistan ($351 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+34.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Imports in Iran
Sugar imports into Iran soared to 1.1M tons in 2022, picking up by 38% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced reduction.
In value terms, sugar imports surged to $501M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a buoyant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Sugar Exports in Iran
For the fourth year in a row, Iran recorded growth in shipments abroad of sugar, which increased by 301% to 294 tons in 2022. Overall, exports showed a significant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sugar exports soared to $170K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 98% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
