Sugar Crop Price in Spain (FOB) - 2022
The average sugar crop export price stood at $473 per ton in 2022, increasing by 16% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sugar crop export price increased by +64.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($645 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($225 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Sugar Crop Price in Spain (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sugar crop import price amounted to $836 per ton, shrinking by -15.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 172% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $987 per ton, and then declined significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($5,003 per ton), while the price for Tunisia ($265 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+17.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Crop Exports in Spain
For the fourth year in a row, Spain recorded growth in shipments abroad of sugar crops, which increased by 5.5% to 23K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 17%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, sugar crop exports soared to $11M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Sugar Crop Imports in Spain
In 2022, purchases abroad of sugar crops was finally on the rise to reach 8K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn.
