The average steel plaited band import price stood at $35,950 per ton in June 2023, jumping by 382% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 1,204% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $37,051 per ton. From November 2022 to June 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($262K per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($627 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+46.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average steel plaited band export price amounted to $4,430 per ton, rising by 6.1% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, steel plaited band export price increased by +35.2% against 2019 indices. In 2022, overseas purchases of iron or steel plaited bands and slings decreased by -46.4% to 50 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a sharp slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 218 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, steel plaited band imports fell notably to $315K in 2022. Overall, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 92% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $924K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
