Stationery Product Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021

In December 2021, the average stationery product export price amounted to $2,330 per ton, picking up by 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2021 when the average export price increased by 34% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,344 per ton in April 2021; afterwards, it flattened through to December 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,016 per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($1,475 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2021, the average stationery product import price amounted to $2,815 per ton, declining by -9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2021 an increase of 17% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,092 per ton, and then declined in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($3,896 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($992 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Stationery Product Exports in Malaysia

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in shipments abroad of stationery products, when their volume increased by 2.1% to 30K tons. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep slump.

In value terms, stationery product exports fell slightly to $65M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction.

Stationery product imports into Malaysia dropped to 10K tons in 2022, with a decrease of -9.9% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year.

In value terms, stationery product imports contracted notably to $24M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 45%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $29M, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
