In 2022, the average starches; inulin import price amounted to $1,108 per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, starches; inulin import price increased by +38.5% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 30%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,974 per ton), while the price for Austria ($703 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average starches; inulin export price stood at $3,449 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $4,160 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($8,758 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ghana ($1,742 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Starches; Inulin Imports in Switzerland
In 2022, purchases abroad of starches; inulins increased by 4.4% to 22K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn.
In value terms, starches; inulin imports soared to $24M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

For the third year in a row, Switzerland recorded decline in overseas shipments of starches; inulins, which decreased by -24.9% to 112 tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded a significant contraction. The smallest decline of -9.6% was in 2021.
In value terms, starches; inulin exports dropped to $385K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year.
