In August 2023, the average starches; inulin export price amounted to $742 per ton, shrinking by -4.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 28% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,074 per ton. From December 2022 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,420 per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($551 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In August 2023, the average starches; inulin import price amounted to $997 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 19% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,216 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

For the fourth consecutive year, Romania recorded growth in supplies from abroad of starches; inulins, which increased by 8.5% to 16K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
