Starches; Inulin Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023
The average starches; inulin export price stood at $1,139 per ton in August 2023, with a decrease of -2.6% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 12% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,300 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,553 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($504 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Starches; Inulin Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average starches; inulin import price amounted to $838 per ton, reducing by -6.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 84% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,068 per ton. From May 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,313 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($545 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Starches; Inulin Exports in Germany
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of starches; inulins, when their volume decreased by -19.4% to 505K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 21% against the previous year.
In value terms, starches; inulin exports reduced modestly to $460M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 17%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $462M, leveling off in the following year.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 13% against the previous year.
In value terms, starches; inulin imports skyrocketed to $384M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.4% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
