In 2022, the average spices; nutmeg import price amounted to $2,149 per ton, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a precipitous decline. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $23,969 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,026 per ton), while the price for Singapore ($494 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-10.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, overseas purchases of spices; nutmeg decreased by -5.9% to 22 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 13% against the previous year.

In value terms, spices; nutmeg imports rose rapidly to $47K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn.
