Spices; Nutmeg Price in Costa Rica (CIF) - 2022

The average spices; nutmeg import price stood at $3,032 per ton in 2022, rising by 2.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $4,496 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,089 per ton), while the price for Spain stood at $1,574 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-1.9%).

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, spices; nutmeg export price increased by +56.7% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 5.5% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $12,589 per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was El Salvador ($41,821 per ton), while the average price for exports to Guatemala ($11,119 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $429K, and then reduced in the following year.
