The average speed changer import price stood at $36,289 per ton in July 2023, increasing by 26% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a strong increase from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, speed changer import price increased by +27.0% against May 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 74% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $39,951 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($131K per ton), while the price for China ($12,826 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average speed changer export price stood at $36,423 per ton in 2022, picking up by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $39,820 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($83,092 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($9,878 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports, however, recorded tangible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 166%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 10K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, speed changer imports fell to $105M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -29.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $149M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
