Spacecraft Price in Japan (CIF) - 2022

In 2021, the average spacecraft import price amounted to $3,043 per unit, waning by -33% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 191% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $6,680 per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,272 per unit), while the price for France totaled $3,042 per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Spacecraft Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average spacecraft export price amounted to $3,505,271 per unit, surging by 717% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 7,179%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $7,458,376 per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($4,125,534 per unit), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands stood at $2,264,747 per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+251.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Spacecraft Imports in Japan

In 2022, overseas purchases of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles decreased by 99.9% to 1 units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports showed a dramatic descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 3,783%. Imports peaked at 124K units in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, spacecraft imports fell dramatically to $25K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a dramatic descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 5,165%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $378M in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.
