Snail Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

The average snail import price stood at $6,712 per ton in August 2023, declining by -3.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 an increase of 94% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $9,278 per ton. From July 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($21,429 per ton), while the price for Nigeria ($1,677 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guinea (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Snail Price in the United States (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average snail export price amounted to $2,504 per ton, flattening at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 49% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $9,469 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($2,480 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bermuda stood at $2,478 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Snail Imports in the United States

In 2022, overseas purchases of snails (except sea snails) decreased by -10.5% to 318 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 444 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, snail imports reduced remarkably to $2.2M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 36%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2.7M, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Snail Exports in the United States

In 2022, approx. 46 tons of snails (except sea snails) were exported from the United States; declining by -16.3% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total exports indicated pronounced growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +27.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 55 tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, snail exports fell dramatically to $116K in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a sharp descent.
