Smoked Salmon Price in Canada (CIF) - 2023
The average smoked salmon import price stood at $22,292 per ton in September 2023, growing by 2.3% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 29% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $26,470 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($28,303 per ton), while the price for Chile ($17,645 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Smoked Salmon Price in Canada (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average smoked salmon export price amounted to $15,798 per ton, shrinking by -4.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 150% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $36,999 per ton. From June 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($42,149 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK totaled $13,524 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+1.5%).

For the fourth consecutive year, Canada recorded growth in purchases abroad of smoked pacific, atlantic and danube salmon, which increased by 2.7% to 1.4K tons in 2022.
